[#English Grammer] "Used to" & Aliteration

Aliteration & Used to

Aliteration

What is Aliteration?
: Alliteration is a literary device that involves the repetition of the same initial consonant sound in two or more closely adjacent words or syllables. This repetition often occurs at the beginning of the words, but it can also take place within the words if the repeated sound is sufficiently prominent.

ex)
I was foolish to stay in my house and not seek shelter away from the beach.

The ferocious winds died down almost as quickly as they had started.

I walked out to the garage and grabbed my kayak.

Vivid & descriptive language can make reader experience more.

attic: the part of a building, especially of a house, directly under a roof; garret.
ex. I left with only the attic to stay in.
subsided: adjective as in low; below; depressed; flat; little; small
pavement: noun as in blacktop; asphalt; road; sidewalk

[#English Grammer] Used to 文法

Grammar of 'used to' & 'be used to' have differences.

used to + [be동사] : ~이었다, ~였다 (same as upon 'used to + verb'形)

used to + [verb] : ~하곤 했었다

be used to + ~ing (동명사) : ~하는 데 익숙하다 or ~하는데 습관이 되었어

be used to + [verb] : ~하는데 사용되다, ~하는데 쓰여지다
(In this case, used is used as 수동태, so the meaning 'used' get the real meaning. So, I could be interpreted as "[verb]을 하는데 사용되다, 쓰여지다." )

'Used to' sentence have below traits

- significant time

- probably not repeated

- repeated & regular

- finished action or state

※Careful about the concept :

used to (O) ← Correct usage

didn't used to (X) ← Grammar is worng

didn't use to (O)  ← Correct case

But, when it is pronounced ...

used to /us'tə to/

didn't use to /didn't us'tə to/

: take care about the ambiguity!!
